RANDOM SUBMISSION

Pet Here is a collection of writing about stranger's pets. These submissions were pulled from a call-to-action on my Tumblr where I asked to people respond to the post with anything they wanted to share about their pets. My exact request was as follows:

How to be a part of this project:
  • Reply to this post or reblog and put in the tags or in the post itself anything you want about your pet. You can also send me an ask if you want, but I will not post any of these asks.
  • If you want to speak about a pet that has passed, please indicate somewhere in your reply that it has passed. I intend to use that information in the piece itself. You can include a picture of your pet ONLY IF YOU WANT! Pictures aren't necessary but I might figure out a way to incorporate them.
Important:
  • The text you provide is not going to be credited to you/your url, everything will be anonymous.
Due to the nature of Tumblr as a collection site, I had to edit some responses by adding periods in place of where tags were in the original submission. I also removed paragraph breaks from responses which included them. Other than that, the stories are presented exactly as they were originally given. Accounts of passed pets are written in cyan.

The purpose behind styling the submissions as a large block of text is to convey the sheer love people have for their animals. When given a short prompt to say anything at all about their pets, many people chose to write short essays about their animal muses. Just as entertainingly, others made brief witty comments on their pets as if writing about a friend. I think the love for our pets is so unconditional that it becomes powerful, especially when some decided to write about their late pets who have clearly touched their hearts unforgettably. Those of us who have had animals in our lives may occasionally realize that what we think is a unique experience with our pets is actually a common occurance among these animals. However, this doesn't dampen our enchantment with the animals we let into our homes. This project provides 80+ accounts of pets who were special enough to, at least shortly, immortalize in story.
